The owner of a hamburger chain, who has been an outspoken advocate for Palestine, saw one of his Burgertory stores in Caulfield, Melbourne, severely damaged in what authorities are deeming a "suspicious" fire. Around 4 a.m. on Friday, the Caulfield branch of Burgertory suffered significant destruction in a blaze, with online photos showing staff working hard to extinguish the flames.
Victoria Police confirmed in a statement that there were no people inside the store at the time, but the cause of the fire is considered suspicious. Last month, the owner, Tayeh, was photographed at a pro-Palestinian rally in Melbourne shouting, "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." Following the controversy, this Jordanian-born Palestinian issued an "Open Letter to My Jewish Friends," calling for a boycott of his stores. However, there is no indication that the fire is linked to Mr. Tayeh's pro-Palestinian stance. |
